Sex Pistols - The Filth and the Fury

Sinopsis:

Step-1 is one of the worlds finest oi/punk labels and this is one more of their punk/oi compilations released. This time bands like Funeral Dress, The Authority, GC5, Bonecrusher & Antidote visit us and provides us with real pogo punk. The compilation mainly covers american punk bands that have showed up their faces during the last years and this compilation pretty much proves that much of the good classic punk music today is made "over there". However some europeans bands are also present and the japanese legends Dick Spikie also get´s a tune. Some tunes on this CD is good, other are not quite as good but Funeral Dress, Bonecrusher, Antidote, Last Years Youth, Blind Society, Unite Against Society & Casualities gives us a couple of good old pogo punk tunes with that catchy "up yours" feeling that we all fell in love with years ago. To be honest i can´t really find any bad tune on this one, it´s just that some are even better then "very good". Other things to notice is that this time more and more female punk bands shows up and rocks us around a bit i´m talking about The Relix and Banner Of Hope. Those bands is really bands i´m going to keep an eye on since they make a really good work on this compilation and personally i love that more and more girls come out with better and better punk bands. To be short: i think this compilation is a good punk album for us who like the old pogo friendly punk, sometimes too damn political to the grade that it becomes pathetic (but hey there is a punk song against that bullshit on this compilation as well), this kind of punk is still so fuckin good!

Album Review top

Live: Runnin' Riot Across the USA is a pleasant look at a band at the peak of their comeback tour, playing energetic tunes for a buzzing audience. Half of the material is clear and nearly perfectly mixed in a club in San Francisco, while the other half of the record was sort of blah, coming from the legendary CBGB in New York City. Cock Sparrer still puts together a surprisingly good show, and their frontman, Colin McFaull, can still sing with sizzle and flair. The brute punk of the band is easily found in the group's aura both on-stage and in their earlier records. This live compilation features two of their smash hits during their prime, "Running Riot" and "Chip on Your Shoulder." The album does include flashes of thunder and a feverish attitude that's compelling enough to enlighten and turn on their hardcore fans. ~ Shawn M. Haney, All Music Guide

11. Area De Combate - Aquest Ets Tu (2:25)
12. Area De Combate - Percebes Negros (Bonus Track) (1:18)

Beste salto bat egin genuen. Disko honetan hardcore ideietan eta jarreretan ikusten da nagusiki, baina musikan aldentzen hasten gara. Funk, rock, heavy ere bai, planteamendu zabalagoa da. Azken disko honekin errekonozimendu moduko bat izan genuen. Beharbada, aurreko diskoak baino minoritarioagoa izan zen, baina oso harreman estua sortu zen taldearen eta jarraitzaileen artean. Kontzertuetan komunikazio handia egoten zen jendearekin.

Zazpi urte joan dira BAP! taldea desegin zenetik. Ordutik denbora luze joan da, baina taldearen oihartzuna oso bizirik dago oraindik musikazaleen oroimenean. Hain zuzen, oroimen hori asetu nahian, Metak disketxeak BAP!! bazen izeneko DVDa kaleratu zuen joan den urte bukaeran. Argitalpenak oso erantzun ona izan du. DVDan material asko bildu da. Batetik, BAP!-ek 1996ko irailaren 28an Andoaingo gaztetxe zaharrean emandako azken kontzertuaren zuzeneko audio eta bideo grabazioa dakar. Horrez gain, taldeak 1986an grabatutako lehendabiziko maketa; elkarrizketak eta hainbat bideoklip dakartzan …eta bestela ondo? bideoa, eta Andoaingo gaztetxe zaharrean ateratako hamaika argazki dakartza DVDak.

BAP!! bazen une egokian etorri da. Izan ere, talde bikain hari behin betiko agurra egiteko modu bat izan da, baina baita laster ezagutaraziko den proiektu berriari ongietorria egiteko ere.

Who Are The Vindictives?

For those of you who just happened to wonder into my place while aimlessly drifting through the endless homepages on the internet, here is some Vindictives information. The Vindictives contribute thier own twist to the punk rock genre. The Vindictives cut their first record in 1991, it came out on 7" and was self titled. After their initial release of Vindictives in 1991 the Vindictives would release 12 albums of thier own and participate in 2 various artist projects. Unfortunatly due to a variety of health problems striking Joey Vindictive, the band officially disbanded July 15th 1996. Fortunately in 2000 The Vindictives anounced that the band was back together and planning on re-releasing older albums and to also cut a brand new album to be released in the later summer/fall. Hypno-Punko, the latest release, hit the shelves in 2000 and proved that the vindictives had finally returned to their rightful place in the music world. 16. Swallow My Pride

Why cover one song when you can cover an entire album?

The Vindictives ask that musical question with their tribute to the Ramones, in covering the great 1977 album, Leave Home. And they do it in a very vindictive style of punk...

Naturally, the songs include such "Pinhead," "Suzy Is A Headbanger," "Commando," and "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker." And don't forget more obscure Ramones' classics "You Should Never Have Opened That Door," "Babysitter," "Glad To See You Go," and "Swallow My Pride."

A good treat for Ramones fans from six to sixty. Liberation Records, P.O. Box 17746, Anaheim, CA 92817

This is the first new album by the Vindictives in almost 5 years, and frankly I’m not to impressed. I really like this band, but this album is to experimental for my tastes. There are some really good tracks on here that I really enjoy listening to. However, there is a lot more crap than there is good stuff. My favorite tracks on here are “Structure and Function”, “First on the Block” and “In Pursuit”. Unfortunatly there are a lot of concept songs on here, such as the 44 minute long “In Pursuit II” which is just the last 10 seconds or so of “In Pursuit” repeated over and over. I think hardcore Vindictives fans may be somewhat dissapointed by this album, but equally as pleased with the fact that the band is releasing stuff again. If you’re looking to check out this band for the first time, I highly recommend you start with “The Many Moods of The Vindictives”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Vindictives have done it again. As if anyone had any doubts, the latest offering from the Chicago based band is a masterpiece of punk rock. They have managed to combine the best of their snot nosed punk rock style with loops and other little song tidbits reminiscent of a head on collision between Crass and the white album era Beatles. Not possible, you say? Purchase it and you too can bask in the glory of what is a truly twisted example of a band with serious mental issues.

--------------------------------------------

Titled "Smack Smash", the follow up to 2002's "Living Targets" will come out on April 5th through Epitaph in all of Europe, except for Germany. The album was recorded in Berlin with producer Moses Schneider. The first single will be "Hand In Hand". The band will be doing a few already sold out warm up shows in January before embarking on some european dates.

THE FREEZE
Cliff Hanger: Vocals Bill Close : Lead Guitar & Backing Vocals Joe
Koonz : Rhythm Guitar Walter Gustafson : Drums Pat Leonard : Bass THE FREEZE have
a sound that, though influenced heavily by their hard-core roots, transcends those
boundries. Cliff is an amazing lyricist with a knack for incredibly catchy melodies
with a tough and dangerous undercurrent. This dichotomy wins them acceptance in
the underground while allowing them to cross-over in to the mainstream. They formed
in Boston in1979. They released a self-produced single "I Hate Tourists" in 1980
that received heavy local airplay, garnered much favorable local press, and led
to their signing with Modern Method Records. In 1982-83 THE FREEZE were featured
on three Modern Method compilations: "Wicked Good Time Volume Two" (featured "American
Town" ), "This Is Boston Not L.A." (featured eight FREEZE songs including the
title track), and "Unsafe At Any Speed" (featured "Refridgerator Heaven"). 1984
brought the release of the "Guilty Face" 7 inch as well as their first full-length
LP "Land Of The Lost" . In 1985 THE FREEZE toured the country in a black hearse
in support of their LP and contributed a track to the Flipside compilation. The
tour was cut short in Minneapolis when Cliff dove off the stage, destroyed his
face, and had to be rushed to the hospital. In 1986 THE FREEZE put out their second
album "Rabid Reaction" and toured the U.S. and Canada extensively. On their sixth
trip to Canada they were stopped and strip searched at the border; the authorities
confiscated marijauna, switch-blades and pornography and banned them from Canada
for a year. The band broke up in 1989, but then reunited for a benefit show in
1990 and decided to keep playing together. In1991 TAANG! Records approached THE
FREEZE about re-relasing their out-of-print-material and were surprised to learn
that there were four new FREEZE songs recorded. Curtis (TAANG!) listened to the
new material and was so psyched on it that he offered to put out an entire new
FREEZE album. The band returned immediately to the studio and recorded their awe-inspiring
release, "Misery Loves Company" which received an incredible response from critics.
They were on the cover of both Concrete Foundations and CMJ's Loud Rock Report,
and charted in metal and alternative.

The Bollweevils
The band came together in Sheffield in April 1988, the idea initially was to be Husker Du with a female singer and after a few false starts with drum-machines and rhythm guitarists we soon settled down to a steady 4-piece line-up that stayed together for three years. Sarah Griffiths (vocals) Mark Johnson (guitars) Steve McKevitt (bass) and Chris Coyle (drums).
Self-managed, we spent the next 18 months solidly gigging around the country to crowds of the one-man and his dog variety. Back in Sheffield though, we did build up a respectable following in due to a series of good gigs and lots of local radio play. During this time we made a couple of compilation appearances on stuff like "Corrupt Postman" along with a lot of Sarah records bands we didn't like which helped us enormously.

With.Honor.-.Heart.Means.EverythingFull.album(256.VBR)(By.Zombs)Hardcore-Punk(www.SharePunk.tk).-..ace

With Honor - Heart Means Everything - Label:Stillborn Records Street date:2004 February 17

01. intro [00:24]
02. rethink, return [02:51]
03. third generation [00:53]
04. more than heroes [03:32]
05. all hope aside [02:22]
06. with the wind [02:42]
07. milwaukee [02:15]
08. stolen glances [01:29]
09. perfect stance [03:22]
10. textbook case [02:50]
11. when will we learn [05:17]

With Honor, from Conneticut have not been around
for very long, but with their EP out last spring
they definitely established themselves as one of
the best new bands in hardcore today. We're very
happy to bring you the first full length from these
guys hot off the press and due out sometime in
January. Also check out Blacklisted's first full
length out today as well. Possibly two of the best
hardcore albums of 2004 brought to you by your
friends in FNT one day before it even starts wink.gif

When Shai Hulud announced their break up, hardcore lost one the greatest bands it had ever seen. Luckily, With Honor are here to pick up the torch and continue to make inspired hardcore anthems. While With Honor shares many differences with Shai Hulud, the spirit that can be found in both bands songs is unfounded in most other bands. Now time to get to the actual review of the cd.

Heart Means Everything is With Honor's debut full length and follow up to their outstanding 4 song demo that was release in early 2003. It contains 10 brand new songs and an intro. First off let me give WH props for not rerecording 2 or 3 of their demo tracks to fill space and actually providing us with a full album of new songs. The production on this record is crisp and everything sounds great at just the right volume. The songs on here are a step above their previous work with improved song writing and a better vocal performance overall. With Honor never fail to bring a positive message in their music and get it across with just the right amount of force. I see big things for this band in the future.

____________________________________

All it takes is one look, and it is impossible to miss what "With Honor" is all about. Self-improvement, unity, following your heart are human characteristics that are embraced by many bands. "Heart Means Everything" by this Hartford, Connecticut band starts off the new year full of this hardcore goodness. Hard, fast and fun are adjectives that (in a serious kind of way) would characterize this album.

The music that With Honor gives us is hardcore in the vein of many other bands that have come before. However the band manages to remain fresh-sounding throughout the entire album. Vocalist Todd Mackey sings loudly and knows how to project his voice without actually screaming, which allows the listener to actually understand what he is saying. The lyrics that he uses are inspiring and moral. However he is not preaching, he is only talking about his own personal beliefs and life choices.

Clocking in at 27 minutes, With Honor fulfills another requirement in hardcore, and that is to keep the album under 30 minutes. It almost seems that without a doubt, With Honor’s songs would translate in an excellent manner into a live setting, and that is the feeling of the entire album. It is meant to be memorized, carried with one’s self and sung with all his or her heart at the next show. With Honor undoubtedly leads the pack in the new generation of hardcore with "Heart Means Everything".

Leatherface.-.Dog.Disco.-.Full.album(192kbps)(By.Zombs)Punk(www.SharePunk.tk).ace

Leatherface - Dog Disco - Label : Better Youth Organization - Street date: 2004 March 09

Tracks:

Hoodlum
Diddlysquat
Heed The Ball
Small Yellow Chair
Raga
You
Eggbound
Red Diesel
Bakelite
Plastic Surgery
Rabbit Pie
Heart

So, I've had the new Leatherface album for about twelve hours right now and I've already logged five full listens. I'm still feeling this out and I'll no doubt be writing about it constantly over the next few months, so here are my first general observations.

First of all, the artwork... seriously, who the fuck is going to buy this thing? It's like the band has given up. Dog Disco looks like one of those weirdo CDs that shitty PR firms send me full of old dudes playing really bad garage rock and wearing dumb, ironic hats. I remember once upon a time when Leatherface had some of the coolest artwork out there (The Last, Smokey Joe, Mush), but Dog Disco just doesn't do it for me.

On these first few listens the songs that stick out most are the ones that I've heard already, "Hoodlum" and "Plastic Surgery." I discussed "Plastic Surgery" in depth in my blog this morning and I think it's probably the best song here. I don't know what it is about that track, but it makes me want to pull out my Frankie Stubbs solo records and sit in the dark alone listening to them. There's just something that's so undeniably Frankie about it. As for "Hoodlum," that one sticks out because it's pretty much the only happy-sounding song on an album that's exceptionally bleak (except, of course, for the garish artwork!). Unfortunately the song's opening riff is one of the few times on the album when I think Leatherface really miss their second guitarist, but once it kicks into high gear it's all go.

I keep wanting to compare Dog Disco to the Pope LP (for those of you who have the reissue of The Last on BYO, this is all the tracks after "Ba Ba Ba Boo"), and "Heed the Ball" is one of the prime reasons for that. The sparse, dirty riff reminds me a lot of "There's Something About America" (unfortunately, the only song from the LP left off of the reissue of The Last for completely unexplained reasons; maybe they couldn't clear the audio samples?), and the downbeat chorus is very indicative of Frankie's between-Leatherface-incarnations work.

Just a few other short observations: every time I hear the opening chords of "Raga" I think that they're going to play their cover of Tracy Chapman's "Talkin' Bout a Revolution" from the Compact and Bijou EP. Drummer Andrew Laing actually handles the vocals on "Raga" and for the first time bass player Davey takes the mic for "Rabbit Pie Alibi" and does quite a respectable job for it. Oh, and "Eggbound" is a really fucking good song, too; maybe "Hoodlum" isn't the only happy-sounding thing on the record. Finally the closing track, "Heart Is Home," keeps up Leatherface's tradition of ending their album with a bang; much like "Box Jellyfish" drains whatever energy reserves you might have had left as your listen to Horsebox draws to a close, "Heart Is a Home" makes sitting alone in the dark the only option when the track ends. Seriously, how could you slap on the new AFI record after hearing THAT?

user posted image

The UK legend is back, with what might be their best album yet. Frankie's lyrics are still heartbreaking, still wise, still beautiful. The guitars still seem to be coming from two completely different points but racing towards a head-on collision. Twelve songs later, it's still all about the music-you know, everything goes aarrrraaaaaarrrgggh. Listen to "Plastic Surgery" here!

The name "Subhumans" may not strike a note with the masses, but in the global punk rock comunity it's a name that stands for longevity, integrity, and a life-long allegiance from the most loyal fans a band could wish for. Not to be confused with the Vancouver band of the same name, the Subhumans were one of the most prolific and original bands of the evolving UK punk scene. After playing 262 shows throughout the world, the band called it quits in 1986, only to re-form in 1998 for a five week tour of the U.S. where they played to as many as 4,000 people a night.

Fat wanted to capture the raw punk sound and excitement that is a Subhumans show, and we did so with our fifth installment of the Live In A Dive series. After the success of the reunion tour, the band has opted to stay active, continue touring, and even work on a new full length. See them live if ya can, check out their Live In A Dive if ya can't!

Say what you will about the relative merits of bands like Lagwagon and Tilt, but the folks at Fat Wreck Chords seem like they’ve really got their shit together when it comes to punk rock’s roots. Remember that 101-band compilation that featured songs by Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and the Descendents? What about the fact that the new Descendents record is coming out on their label? And didn’t they also put out the last Dickies record?

The latest in this series of roots-defining record is the new Live in a Dive disc by none other than the UK’s Subhumans, one of those bands who many kids have seen patches and tshirts for at shows but probably haven’t actually heard before because their records aren’t too well-distributed in the United States. Fat Wreck has tried to rectify that by putting out this mammoth 26-song live set that serves as the most succinct and powerful Subhumans greatest hits collection that you can currently buy.

As anyone who has seen the Subhumans live knows, they are a tight, powerful and capable live band. Sure, being a tight punk rock group is about as much of an achievement as being a half-a-pack a day smoker, but the Subhuman’s music is actually pretty darn diverse and complex, though never in a show-offy, Dillinger Escape Plan kind of way. There’s a short interview on the enhanced portion of this CD and in it the band cites the Ruts as one of their primary influences and that doesn’t surprise me a bit; the way that the Subhumans combine reggae, punk, ska and hardcore into a sound that can only be called their own has only been replicated by a handful of bands like the Ruts and the Clash.

The set list for the show captured here is pretty phenomenal, bound to please pretty much anyone from the longtime fan to the total newcomer. It’s a bit heavy on tracks from the band’s best album, The Day the Country Died, but isn’t that really how it should be? This disc should provide the newbie with a sample of pretty much all of the Subhuman’s studio albums and for the old fogey like me who is familiar with that stuff it’ll have you digging up your old vinyl copies of World’s Apart and Rats and remembering how great those discs really are.

In addition to the blistering live set, this also comes with video footage of one song that doesn’t appear on the audio portion (“New Age”), a short video taped interview with the band and a very cool ten-page black and white comic book that illustrates the lyrics to “Subvert City.” While all this may not be enough to win over someone who is dead-set against live albums (though the recording here is much better than most band’s studio material), aside from that, this one’s really a no-brainer.

F.Y.P. "Toys That Kill" CD Okay, I guess this one really is the last record by FYP, but they called it "Toys That Kill" because that¶s the name of the band that Todd and Sean (Two of the main FYP guys) will continue to play in now the FYP is over. There is a big booklet that comes with this that goes over the history of the band, but this is new material, not a retrospective disc. This has the distinctive FYP sound of the last few new releases, "Toys that Kill" is a good name because it does have a demented childishness about it. It's punk rock that doesn¶t get repetitive or boring. This may be the best record yet. I'd have to go back and compare the other ones to be sure, but every song on here is strong and no other band has this sound.

"Out of all the bands I listen to when I was in high school, I think F.Y.P had the most profound effect on my adolescent development. What better soundtrack to flunk to than "Vacation Bible School"? From an outsiders point of view F.Y.P was always the coolest band live; thrashing the stage and playing like twenty songs in like twenty five minutes. They made all the Good Riddances and Strung Outs look like weenie rock jocks. After I became an F.Y.P fan, the ante was upped and other than Born Against, I was done with modern punk."--Joe
