The all time OG (original gangsters matey!) of Oi! Hard, fast and very fuckin' real.....a band name all mummy's boys and arty farty trendies won't even mention to this day!
This CD captures the best of the 3 different line ups of the band. Gary Hodges the band's first vocalist is featured on 5 tracks including the band's first ever single "One Law For Them", the title track "Clockwork Skinhead" and the violent yet `tongue-in-cheek' "Evil".
Second vocalist Panther is featured on the band's third single "Low life" and 4th (and unreleased) single "Seems To Me" while the rest of the CD features Oi! legend (and former Last Resort vocalist) Roi Pearce from tracks on the band's brilliant second album "A Few 4-Skins More" plus live tracks from the band's last ever recordings "From Chaos To 1984".

The 4-Skins more than any other band were probably "too real". They didn´t say one thing, and do another. They just lived their lives, and transferred it on to disc. But before you could say "What a wounderful world it is..." the arty-farty trendies were on the war path claiming that "This band is sexist...", "This band is rockist this band is this that and the other...", "This band preaches violence...". Let´s just for once get the facts right... The 4-Skins didn´t preach the glory of violence. They were just singing about what their inner city lives were surrounded by... violence! Remember what they said on their debut album "The Good, The Bad and The 4-Skins"... "We don´t incitate violence we only sing about what happens". But thats hard sentiments for a suburbian middle-class trendy to understand. This bands first vinyl release came via tracks on the two early Oi albums. It was after the success of these records the band were offered a lucrative publishing dead with a major publishing company of which one of the minor conditions was a name change to the "Skins 4" or whatever. Obviously, this was not on, and consequently nor was the deal. A small gesture some might say, but a good example og how The 4-Skins never compromised unlike so many of their so called peers! ... more ---> http://www.geocities...4500/skins.html

Chicago's Bollweevils betray their roots with a grinding, buzzsaw guitar sound, very much in the Chicago hardcore tradition of Naked Raygun and the Effigies. Add cascading bass riffs, rapid-fire drums, a snotty lead vocalist and plenty of speed, and you've got an energetic and entertaining punk band that can hold its own in any mosh pit in America. On Stick Your Neck Out!, the band relies on the power of lead singer Daryl's (no last names) vocals, which are strong enough to carry the band's soundalike thrash anthems and supply whatever melody the songs possess. Although the lyrics generally root around familiar punk themes — friendship, loyalty, broken hearts and scene politics — they tend to be more literate than the usual pop-punk fare, especially the stark, eerie "John Doe," which examines the plight of a homeless man turned medical cadaver, wondering what kind of life ended in such squalid anonymity. A hidden bonus track — a cover of Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/Jenny" — ends the album with a bit of puckish wit.
The Bollweevils are nothing if not prolific; the group's second album collects previously released tracks from four EPs, several compilations and even a Christmas song. The recording quality varies, but not the basic formula: power-chord guitar sound and rallying vocals.
The band shows a bit of growth on Heavyweight, with more complex arrangements and the addition of rousing background vocals to augment Daryl's fiery leads. Everything still rushes along at breakneck tempos, but the lyrics tackle the more complicated, tangled emotions of post-adolescence. "There's a place I've heard of where perfection is standard," Daryl sings in "Utopia." "Where I come from, we don't know it/If you live there, overthrow it." "Major Problems" takes a poke at the legions of punk bands fleeing the indie underground for major labels: "Your music is the rage, 15 minutes it's your fame," Daryl warns angrily. The album concludes with a raveup cover of the Bad Brains' thrash classic, "Pay to Cum," followed by a twelve-minute audio tour diary — a waste of time, but good for a few chuckles the first time you hear it.

The Hymans started as a trio in 1984 because the rockscene in Ludvika, Dalarna, Sweden really sucked. The band became retards of rock and wanted to make great tunes with less tricks than other bands used. Later in 87 the bass-player moved and was shifted with a new vital force. Matte and Micke said goodbye to Hazzle and hello to Kempa. As a trio they played on for another 5 years, made demo tapes and gained good reviews from undergorund press. But still there was something missing in the concept, so they asked another guitarist to join them. The year was 1992 and his name was Bempa and he was kinda cute and young looking.... A retarded guitarist who only could play 3 chord wonders at volume 11 and that was it, quite enough for Hymans. And now Micke could concentrate o what he was doing best- the singing.

Cool! Wynona Records is a Italian label that have sent me 6 CDs, so there will be reviews of Wynonas releases the rest of this week, 1 CD each day. A bit weird to get a Swedish band from an Italian label when I live in Sweden, but I guess the band are too lazy to send me their record themselves. Im really happy that Wynona Records sent me this CD anyway, cus it so damned good, its actually 1 of my favorites right now.
Hymans is a band that have been around for almost 20 years, and their biggest influence is Ramones, which you really can hear in some of the songs. So if you miss Ramones, this is the most obvious choice for you. Theres a total of 14 songs, and all songs are great. Funny that they do a cover of the Rolling Stones song "2000 Man", as Kiss also did on their album "Dynasty". You just got to get this album!! Hard Rock Info - 05-27-2003

At this time, in the late seventies-early eighties, if you wanted to play in a band you needed either two things; one, shit loads of really nice gear , and two, shit loads of hair. Punk rock was pretty frowned down upon—you sorta took your life into your hands when you went to gigs or even listened to a record too loud. People really thought you were a degenerate.
Black Flag was just about ready to take off, locally. They set the standards all the locals tried to meet, and when their label, SST, started releasing records by other local bands, the scene really grew.
If you were a punk band at the time, and not affiliated with them for whatever reason, it was hard because you were still an outsider, and in this case, not punk enough. We were never able to meet their “requirements”, whatever they were, even though we’d see them at parties in our neighborhood all the time. Maybe it was just the “pecking order”, and that’s how things are supposed to be done, but it still makes for bitter memories for me.
We decided that if we really wanted to play out more, and get taken seriously, we had to record. Again, Black Flag screwed things up-- by proxy--recording studios heard about a “bad local punk band” and wanted nothing to do with recording “that shit”. It took a while before we found a studio with someone who had an open enough mind to take our money.
Emmitt Rhodes was a guy who was a teenage rock star. He fronted a band called the Merry-Go-Round in the sixties, a psychedelic rock act. He played on “American Bandstand” when he was fifteen. He was in his early thirties, as I recall, lived across the street from Brian Wilson’s mom, had a Jacuzzi in his backyard, and was incredibly stoned all the time. He also had a 2-inch 24-track machine and a full studio in his garage. We spent about a grand recording and mixing, and being young and poor, it took a while before we could raise the rest of the money to press the record—another 2 grand, I think—at Rainbow in Santa Monica.
I played bass, Juan played guitar, Korky on the drums, and Mike Mooney sang. Mooney was from Philadelphia, and had the worst case of stage freight I’ve ever seen on anybody. He puked before rehearsals! He quit after the record came out, and started a band called “fun”. I don’t know what ever happened to him—the last time I saw him he came to my house drunk off his ass and challenging me to a fight. I’m six-foot-six and 230 pounds, and this idiot’s five eleven and 160. I laughed and closed the door on him.
We released it as soon as we could, and the first person that really picked up on it was Jello Biafra. Jello really went out of his way for other bands, ensuring that they had their records listened to and had at least one decent gig—opening for the Dead Kennedys. Maximum RockNRoll picked it up too, and we were soon regarded as San Francisco’s favorite L.A. band, which was fine by us.
We were never really liked by the L.A. crowd, and “Flipside” downright hated us. I think it was because we just didn’t fit the L.A. mold of bands—we didn’t skateboard, didn’t wear makeup, we weren’t flashy. Our songs were too political as well.
This, among other things, was a big reason why we ended up in Oregon. L.A. is a very, petty and shallow place, and we were alienated. The only gigs we could get were with bigger bands from outside of L.A. The other local bands wouldn’t have us on their shows. We had to tour to play, and coming back to L.A. found that we still couldn’t get booked. Eventually that changed, but for different reasons, and it still wasn’t fun going to gigs and watching the other bands get to play while you had to sit on the sidelines.
http://homepages.nyu.edu/~cch223/images/New/detonators_mrr.jpg
The Detonators were formed in 1979 by Bruce Hartnell and Juan Camacho in Redondo Beach, CA., to participate in the emerging hardcore punk rock scene that was exploding in southern California at the time. Just out of high school, the two life-long friends played various parties and gigs with numerous drummers—as punk rock was still fairly frowned upon by most musicians, and finding a drummer willing to stick around long enough to allow the band to build an audience what quite a task in itself.
Korky Ollerton joined on drums in 1981, and with Hartnell on bass, and Camacho on guitar, the band took to putting and advertisement in a L.A. weekly paper, “The Recycler”, for a vocalist. Mike Mooney passed the audition, and with his inclusion, the band set off work on material that was to become their first LP, “Emergency Broadcast Systems”.
Released in 1983, the LP allowed the Detonators to gain better gigs, opening for The Dead Kennedys, Discharge, Minor Threat, The Misfits, MDC, The Dicks, 45 Grave, among others in the hardcore scene.
Touring now became a necessity, since the band was selling their records on their own label, and they found that they were addicted to life on the road, which they found much more preferable to staying in L.A. and waiting for the next decent gig to come along. On the first time out, the band was able to open for the great Portland band The Wipers, on New Year’s Eve 1983 at the 13th precinct.
Mike Mooney did not make this trip, as he quit the group because he found the intensity of performing too much for his liking. Hartnell took over on the vocals; as he was the songwriter in the band, he was the only one who knew all the lyrics. It was soon decided to keep Hartnell on vocals and add him as second guitar, as the prospect of finding a bassist seemed easier than adding a vocalist.
Pat Fargher was brought in to play bass, and the band recorded a single, “Yer Child’s War” b/w “Emergency Broadcast Systems”, again on their own label, Emergency Broadcast Systems Unlimited. This release was able to buy some time for the band by keeping them in the music press for a while, it was soon apparent to the Detonators that in order to get anywhere they needed a bigger label to put out the next record, as the band had no money of their own to take on such an expenditure; several mechanical breakdowns while touring saw to that.
Hoping to gain any kind of backing for touring and to build on their fan base, they settled on National Trust Records in Orange County, and released “Just Another Reason” in 1985. Tour support was not a reality, but the band kept at the road.
It was decided to try to go to Europe, with the intent being to “trade” tours with an established English hardcore band. A deal was set up with the Instigators, from Huddersfield, in the English midlands, and the two bands toured the continent and Britain in 1986,along with rant poet Nick Toczek .A U.S. tour was done the following spring.
